The FOUR Good BEASTS is an important archetype and thread in the Book of Revelation starting here in Rev 4:6 and Rev 5:6. A more thorough discussion and description of them is to be found in the Afterword of Chapter Four. As with any archetype, they may be seen from different perspectives in different situations and applications. Many people would like everything to mean one thing and one thing only, but that is not the nature of the Book of Revelation. The Book of Revelation introduces us to another level existence, and from there things in our present relative world can be seen from many different perspectives. One perspective on the Good Beasts would be from the Native Teachings as gone into in some detail in the Afterword of this Chapter Four. There they and the Four Winds and the Four Directions are seen to represent the Four Races of Men. Another view holds that they are the Four Types of Souls. For a discussion on this see: Four Types of Souls. Not to put too much stress on their individual identities, but rather really to identify them with the whole of humanity, because after all, Baha'u'llah does say:
(Baha'u'llah, The Summons of the Lord of Hosts, p.78)
Many Bible scholars stand in awe at the inspired nature of the King James Version of the Bible, so it is not without reason that it remains the most popular translation of the Scriptures. There is one phrase, however, that most of the many, many modern versions/translations wish that the KJV had done differently, and that is in regards to the translation of the word "beasts" in the early chapters of the Book of Revelation. The original Koine Greek text used one word in the early chapters, and mostly another in the latter. With ourselves, there is no quibble with the KJV translators that both refer to the same beasts. The issue is that they refer to different natures and qualities of the beasts. In the early chapters they refer to what we will call here the higher nature of man, as being submissive "living creatures" (the preferred translation) surrounding the Throne of God in adoration and praise (what I refer to as the good beasts) and later they become rebellious (the bad beasts) much in similarity as attributed to the fall of Adam, and then finally, in the terminating chapters we again find them "redeemed". In any case - the following are the Book of Revelation verses about the "Good Beasts". |
[6] And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
| V.6 This verse has the first mention of "beasts" in the Book of Revelation. The Beasts are a very important thread and the Afterword of this chapter provides a full discussion about them. The sea of glass like unto crystal before the throne is the clear and pure Spiritual Teachings of God. The beasts being full of eyes before and behind shows their receptivity to those Teachings.
|
[7] And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.
| V.7 While in this verse the Four Beasts are represented as a lion, calf, face of a man, and flying eagle, in other verses they are presented somewhat differently, but are the same Four Beasts. In the Afterword of this Chapter Four there is an extensive discussion about the descriptions and nature of the Four Beasts.
|
[8] And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
| V.8 In this verse the Four Beasts have six wings, but in other parts of the Bible four, which in that case may be a distinction between the beasts. However, in both cases they use two wings to cover their heads and two wingss to cover their feet, and in another verse the other two wings for action. This is symbolism of protecting their powers from being distracted to wrongful purpose, which later becomes a problem for the beasts. It is important to understand that the beasts represent the true purpose of humanity to serve God without resting, and being blessed with eyes within, insight, they should recognize this, and not fail to recognize the Manifestations, Prophets, Revealers of God - past, present, and future.
(Baha'u'llah, Tablets of Baha'u'llah, p. 262) |
[9] And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,
| V.9 The living creatures, the whole of humanity has always been guided by their Creator, and will always be guided by their Creator in the future. It is essential that the living creatures recognize and honor that guidance, past, present and future, and do not become of the opinion that they alone have the Truth of God, and that all others are in error.
|
[6] And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
| V.6 The Book of Revelation, being a Christian Book, (actually a Book revealed by Jesus Christ to all the religions of the world), speaks here of Christ Himself, the Lamb of God which was slain (crucified), pointing out that He has Seven Religions (horns), Seven Eyes (Insight and Wisdom), which are the Seven Spirits (Manifestations of God, Prophets, the Seven Religions, Churches), that God sent unto all the earth and that these stand in the midst of God's Throne and in the midst of the Four Beasts (the Four Living Creatures), (the Four Races of Men) throughout the whole earth. The key understanding that one must gain from the Message about the Seven Spirits that God sent into all the earth, is that they are the one and same Manifestation of God. To demonstrate against, profane, reject One, is to demonstrate against, profane, reject all. As will be amply demonstrated in the chapters to come, much of the Book of Revelation is about Muhammad, and more particularly about the return of Christ in the Bab and Baha'u'llah. The Messenger to Whom this verse refers is the Bab, the return of the Lamb Who was slain, and the similarity of their Missions and Lives is remarkable.
(Shoghi Effendi, The Dawn-Breakers, p. 315)
|
[7] And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
| V.7 Because this is the Book of Revelation this is about the RETURN of Christ, and throughout this book that is explained to be the Bab. Consequently, the references to the Four Beasts (the Four Living Creatures), (the Four Races of Man) from this point on is about their relationship to the Bab and Baha'u'llah as they are the Return of Christ. The symbolism in this verse is about the relationship of The Bab to Baha'u'llah. While the Bab was the Forerunner, still the dominant figure of this dispensation is Baha'u'llah and so it is that it is The Bab that takes the Book, out of the right hand of the One (Baha'u'llah) 'upon the throne'. May 23,1844 marked the first day of the birth of this New Revelation when the first chapter of the Bab's book was written. Three months later a scroll written by the Bab was presented to Baha'u'llah, from which Baha'u'llah joined the Babimovement immediately. At the beginning the Bab revealed that Baha'u'llah's Book was characterized as the "first, the greatest, the mightiest of all books".
('Abdu'l-Baha, A Traveller's Narrative, p. 25)
|
[8] And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
| V.8 This is the great event foretold in the ancient Scriptures such as in Daniel, that the books are to be opened that the Four Beasts (The Four Races of Man, all of humanity) will all recognize the Returned Christ. The odors of the vials represent more than prayers, like an invisible essence of spiritual atmosphere. The emphasis here is that every one of them had harps and golden vials which is symbolic that all the religions had spiritual truths.
(Shoghi Effendi, God Passes By, p.6)
|
[9] And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
| V.9 They sang a new song meaning that this is a new Revelation from God, one that has not been heard before. So many people want the New Manifestation of God to come and bring the previous message. The Bab, being the Return of Christ, as is Baha'u'llah, is worthy to take the Book and open the Seals for all peoples, all races and all nationalities, again the four winds, the four races, the four corners of the earth. The New Song (Message) is for all mankind.
('Abdu'l-Baha, 'Abdu'l-Baha in London, p. 29)
|
[10] And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
| V.10 The New Revelation shall reign on the earth. Those who will accept this new Message and go out to teach, will be highly regarded by the Concourse on High with a rank similar to that of the kings and priests.
(Baha'u'llah, Tablets of Baha'u'llah, p. 181)
|
[11] And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands.
| V.11 John heard the voice of many angels around the throne. The disciples and the Hosts on High are ever ready to assist those who are teaching. The people who will accept the New revelation are numberless, symbolized as ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, which is saying that for generations the earth will be guided by these Teachings.
(Baha'u'llah, Tablets of Baha'u'llah, p.9)
|
[12] Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
| V.12 A loud voice proclaimed the Bab, the Return of Christ, slain as was Jesus, to be worthy to receive power, with eloquence, extraordinary wisdom, spiritual strength and above all, innate knowledge from God. Baha'u'llah also had all these qualities, as did all Seven Revealers of all the religions of God. On May 23, 1844 the Bab declared who He was. To open the new cycle, God has introduced a 'Gate' a Manifestation, with the same attributes as all previous Prophets, to be the Forerunner. Eighteen individuals independently found the Bab and became His disciples (often called 'elders'). Including the Bab they are called Nineteen Letters of the Living.
|
[13] And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
| V.13 All the creatures on the earth, under the earth, and all creatures in the sea, can feel this New Revelation and are blessed by it. The most spiritually blind eye should be able to recognize that a Power was released around 1844 that changed the world. Electricity, automobiles, airplanes, satellites, atomic energy, computers and thousands of other things have suddenly come into existence in the history of the world and mankind. For the centuries before the time of Jesus giving this prophecy - and more centuries before its Fulfillment - the world remained pretty much the same with horse, foot and sail transportation - but then it all suddenly changed at the Divine Springtime and every creature on the earth, under the earth or in the sea were affected one way or the other by this historic Declaration. Blessing and honour and glory, be upon him that 'sitteth on the throne' and unto the Lamb forever and ever. We are to be very humble and accept God's new Prophets for this new day and age because They alone have the guidance that we need for dealing with the Power that has been released in this New Day. The authority for the government of the earth and the conduct or religion derives from the New Teachings in service to God.

[14] And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever. | V.14

Revelation Chapter Six
Bible Verses [1] And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
|
V.1
b.The first SEAL is for the Sabeans, as each of the other Seals will be for their religion in numbered order.
c. This chapter also has the SECOND series in the thread about the Four (good) Beasts, this time dealing with each of the Four Beasts separately.
d. each of the Four Beasts also introduce the short thread of the Four Horsemen, so we have at least three overlapping threads simultaneously going on here at the moment.
e. It is the Lamb, which in this chapter (and the previous two) is The Bab (the first Manifestation of Christ in this Day and Age), opening all of the Seals. The first seal, associated with the Sabean Religion, the oldest religion and most anciently widespread among the native peoples of the earth, seems to be universal in its application.
The 'first beast' (living creature representative of the four natures/souls of man and the four directions of the earth) says "come and see" meaning 'open your eyes and mind'. The Bab has been sent to open the minds and hearts of mankind for the arrival of the One to come (Baha'u'llah), and the arrival of the New Day.
|
[2] And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.
| V.2 This is the first verse to begin the introduction of what are called the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. As with any archetype there is much that can be said about them and they are discussed at length in the Afterword of this Chapter - Chapter Six. There are positive and negative views of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse although most modern literature stresses only the negative view. In the positive sense, the white horse is a symbol of the strength and purity of the religions of the world, as going forth to conquer. This horse, and its rider with a crown, brings a message from God. The Sabean (Native) Faith was the beginning of a religious cycle. The rider goes forth to conquer, symbolizing the Prophets who have come to continue to give their message from God to the peoples of the world. In a negative sense, the religions lose their purity and become dogmatic causing the very opposite of which is their true purpose. Thus in all the religions we see them bringing hatred and death, with burning of crosses and churches in the US to the slaughter by the Islamic State in the Middle East and the conflict between the Hindus and the Muslims. The evil of the age applies to all. |
[3] And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
| V.3 The Bab opens the second seal and the 'second beast' says "come and see." The second seal is associated with the Second Angel which is the Jewish Religion, but we are not going to dwell on the particular application of each of these qualities being described, as applying to a particular culture, because they actually apply to all the religions and cultures of the world. It is not wrong to hold the traditional views of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse that the Red Horse is the horse of war. There is plenty in the Book of Revelation to support that view. So much so, that 'The Apocalypse' is often the name given to the Book. However, those events will be dealt with in detail later in the book and it is also possible to see the Red Horse as being the horse of government and technology, which in their proper application bring order and advancement, but here death and destruction.
|
[4] And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
| V.4 The red horse of war, the horse showing a symbol for strength, while having universal significance certainly is relevant to the Jewish Faith and the tiny State of Israel which we today see completely surrounded by its enemies. There certainly has been no peace in the Middle East and we continuously observe the Muslims killing one another and we shall undoubtedly see all of humanity killing one another. The situation today forebodes a time of trouble also foretold elsewhere in the Bible by Jesus and Daniel.
Matthew 24:21
Daniel 12:1 (King James Bible) |
[5] And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
| V.5 The Third Seal and the Third Angel is associated with the Hindu Faith. The horse of the Third Seal is black and again the horse is a symbol of great power. The rider has a pair of balances, which symbolize judgment. One might view the horseman as coming to render the benefit of justice, but these scales of the law have become as much a burden on the poor people of the world as the swords of war, death and famine borne by the other riders.
All the peoples of the world are concerned about justice, and many of the old systems are seen as deficient. The caste systems and customs of ancient India are seen to be non-applicable for the present day. These black robed judges of the black horse are faulty, as their balances are no longer balanced. While British law, based upon a foundation from the Old Testament and the Ten Commandments, a pure source, was taken to India, it is evident times have changed and the legal system in the Western world has strayed into strange and oppressive paths. The problem for the 'End of Times' is that justice in the law has become legalisms that are not effective, but a New World and New System is about to be established.
(The Bab, Selections from the Writings of the Bab p.161) |
[6] And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
| V.6 There is presently great concern among all the rulers regarding the economic situation. The specific values of currency and how it relates to the imbalance with other countries - some rich and some poor - are measures that need to be resolved. The present system has brought a threat to the world that there will be such great poverty and starvation that most will not be able to afford food or the other necessities of life in the midst of the GREAT blessings of bounty and plenty that the Lord has bestowed upon on this earth.
|
[7] And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
| V.7 The Bab opened the fourth seal, specifically related to the Fourth Angel and the Zoroastrians, but as with all the others it is universal in application. Zoroaster appeared in Persia and Persia appears to have a special role in the End Times. It is where The Bab and Baha'u'llah appeared of course, but in addition to also being where Zoroaster appeared it is the home of most of the remaining declared followers of the Sabean religion. Moreover, Iran, as it is known today, is the source and seat of the Shiite branch of Islam. Much of the Muslim activity of the Last Days, as we see in the next verse, has centered around Persia/Iran. |
[8] And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
| V.8 The horse, that he saw, that at one time had the vitality of new religion, has become pale and anemic. Persia the birthplace of the Zoroasterian Faith was at one time unrivaled in splendor. By the eighteenth century it had sunk to a deplorable condition. The glory had been lost. The food needed to satisfy its spiritual hunger is a return to spiritual attainment. The intolerance of each Muslim sect towards all other Muslim sects, and towards all other religions, has caused death and hell to spring forth in that part of the world. Continuously we hear of hangings, beheadings by the sword, even crucifixions and burning alive. Even shrines and the cemeteries for the dead cannot avoid destruction. It bothers many people that the Book of Revelation is a Holographic presentation - presenting the same subject repeatedly from different perspectives. Thus it is that we see the thread about the Seven Churches repeated six times, and that we shall see the theme presented by the Four Horsemen presented more that once again. At this juncture we are wanting you to see that the qualities of the Horsemen like the qualities of the Beasts and many other archetypes, can be seen from a positive or negative point of view. The Yin and Yang of reality, if you will. |
Revelation Chapter Seven
[11] And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,
| V.11 All knelt before the throne, showing their love and gratitude in prayer.
(Baha'u'llah, Tablets of Baha'u'llah, p. 247) Verse 11 ends the POSITIVE introduction of the The Four Beasts, (The Four Living Creatures), (The Four Races of Mankind). They will return after the tests and trials of Armageddon, but in the interim their counterpoise and counterfeit will have to be dealt with. |
[3] And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
| V.3 The New Song, a song of thanksgiving, love and peace; the words coming from the writings of Baha'u'llah and the Bab. This is the song being sung to the four races of humanity (see Chapter 4:7) and their elders in order to spread the Message. The New Song is the New Message for renewal to the world that brings new knowledge and wisdom, the 144,000 being a symbol of those who first respond to the New Message. This great gift is one that everyone should hold onto with all their might. The new laws are for this day and age, devoid of old man-made superstitions, traditions and vain imaginations.
(Baha'u'llah, Tablets of Baha'u'llah, p. 87)
(Baha'u'llah, Epistle to the Son of the Wolf, p. 25)
('Abdu'l-Baha, Baha'i Scriptures, p. 461)
|
[7] And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever.
| V.7 One of the four races of humanity, (in the Native Teachings, the white race, which was the keeper of the power of fire) gave the vials of God's wrath, to the seven angels. This shows the interaction between heaven and earth. God's Destiny and men's actions. Worldly powers with their nefarious forces of destruction executing God's wrath upon the earth.
|
[4] And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.
| V.4 The four and twenty elders; the appointed disciples of the Bab called the Letters of the Living and the four beasts who are are the four races of humanity mentioned earlier in Rev. 4:7, worshipped God and accepted Gods judgment with gratitude. Baha'u'llah is the One sitting on the throne. |
